Choose a timer when simple is enough
A podcast sleep timer stops playback after a chosen duration or at the end of an episode. It uses no health data and usually works even without a wearable. If you reliably fall asleep in fifteen to twenty minutes, it may be all you need.
Set the timer a little shorter than your normal window. If you remain awake, extend it. This limits how much audio you can miss.
The timer's blind spot
Sleep is not consistent. You might fall asleep in six minutes after a long day and remain awake for forty minutes the next night. A fixed timer cannot react to that difference.
End-of-episode timers have a similar problem. They are convenient for ten-minute shows, but one ninety-minute episode can continue long after you stop listening.
Choose detection when the timing changes
SleepTrack does not need to control the podcast app. On Android it records supported playback positions locally, then matches that timeline with sleep data from Health Connect. The result appears after the sleep session has synced.
This is retrospective detection: it helps you resume in the morning. It is not a promise that every media app will pause the instant you fall asleep.

Use both if you want a hard stop
The tools can complement each other. Set a generous timer so the podcast does not play all night, and use SleepTrack to identify where you drifted off inside that window. The timer protects playback; the timeline helps recovery.
Without a wearable
SleepTrack can still create automatic listening bookmarks for supported Android media. You will not get sleep-onset matching, but the history makes it easier to see what played and when.
